Quick answer
Choose the Clearus C6C for an affordable, angled in-ceiling speaker that excels in Atmos and DTS:X setups. Choose the Theatrus T6C for premium sound quality with its AMT tweeter and aluminum frame, ideal for critical music listening and high-end home theaters.
Angled vs. Standard Design
The Clearus C6C features an angled design, which directs sound toward the listening area. This makes it particularly effective for overhead Atmos effects, as the drivers can be aimed for a more immersive experience without needing to tilt the entire speaker. The Theatrus T6C has a standard flush-mount design, relying on its high-quality components for accurate sound dispersion.
Sound Quality and Build
The Theatrus T6C uses an Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter, known for its detailed and airy high frequencies, and a 6.5" woofer in an aluminum frame for reduced resonance. The Clearus C6C is a 2-way design with a more conventional tweeter, offering good clarity for its price point. The T6C's build is clearly aimed at audiophile-grade performance, while the C6C focuses on delivering effective home theater effects.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Clearus C6C: Affordable & angled for Atmos: Best for budget-conscious home theater builders who want dedicated overhead effects. The angled design is a key advantage for Atmos and DTS:X, but the overall sound quality may not satisfy critical music listeners. Ideal if your primary goal is immersive movie audio and you want to save money for other components.
- Theatrus T6C: Premium sound & build: Best for high-end home theaters and music systems where sound quality is paramount. The AMT tweeter and aluminum frame deliver exceptional clarity and reduced distortion, but you pay a significant premium and lose the angled driver feature. Choose this if you prioritize sonic fidelity over Atmos-specific features and have a larger budget.
- Installation complexity: The Clearus C6C's angled design may require more careful placement and aiming during installation to maximize its effect. The Theatrus T6C installs like a standard in-ceiling speaker, which can be simpler. Factor in installation time and effort, especially if you are not experienced with angled speaker placement.
