Learn how to inspect, clean, and maintain your open-box Novus N5B bookshelf speakers for long-lasting performance. Step-by-step diagnosis guide included.
Quick Answer
Inspect your open-box Novus N5B for visible damage, test the drivers, and follow a simple cleaning routine to keep them performing like new.
Why Open Box Requires Extra Care
Open-box speakers may have been handled or returned for reasons that aren't always obvious. A careful inspection catches potential issues early and helps you decide whether to keep or return them.
The Novus N5B uses the same tweeter and mid/bass driver as the Novus 5T, so any driver damage affects both stereo imaging and surround integration.
Cleaning Do's and Don'ts
Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth for the cabinet. For grilles, a gentle vacuum with a brush attachment works best. Never spray liquid directly on the speaker.
Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents—they can damage the matte finish and the driver surrounds.
Diagnosis Checklist for Open-Box Novus N5B
- Symptom: Visible scratches, dents, or grille damage on the cabinet. If cosmetic damage is unacceptable, consider returning the unit.
- Likely Cause: Previous handling or shipping impact. The open-box status does not guarantee pristine appearance.
- Corrective Action: Light scuffs may be gently buffed with a microfiber cloth. For deeper damage, contact Aperion support for a replacement or refund. Test the speakers for sound before deciding to keep them.
- Stop or Choose Another Option: If you hear buzzing, rattling, or no sound from one driver, stop testing immediately. The driver may be damaged and should be reported. Return or exchange under the open-box warranty if available.
